1.  Meet Juan Hernandez! You might be interested to know that Mister (or should I say Senor) Hernandez, formerly an official of the Mexican government, is currently working as Hispanic Outreach Director for John McCain’s presidential campaign. From an aritcle at Digger’s Realm:

Juan Hernandez, the former Mexican Secretary For Immigration Affairs under the Vicente Fox administration in Mexico, has been discovered to be working for the John McCain campaign as their Hispanic Outreach Director. For those who don’t know Juan Hernandez is a dual citizen of the United States and Mexico. Having worked in Mexico’s government and now apparently in ours, I consider him a double agent and obviously not working in just the best interests of the United States, but in the best interests of Mexico as well. These best interests include allowing millions of illegal aliens in the United States to remain here and in the future for millions more to come.

Hernandez has been quoted, and as you’ll see in the video in his own words, as saying that the Mexicans who do remain here in the United States are hoped to remain loyal to Mexico. Is this the kind of immigrants we want in this country? Do we really want people with loyalties to other countries remaining legally here and obtaining citizenship?….

2.  Check out this report from Iran Focus:

US fears ‘disastrous’ links in Latin America with Islamic militants

A top US military commander said Wednesday he fears a “disastrous” linkup between drug traffickers and radical Islamists in Latin America, where he said Iran wields growing influence.

“I fear greatly that the connectivity between narcoterrorism and Islamic radical terrorism could be disastrous in this region,” Admiral James Stavridis, head of the US Southern Command, told a conference on Latin America.

“What I worry about in this region with outside actors coming into it is the potential for those streams to cross, if you will, for the fuel of narcoterrorism to become engaged in Islamic radicalism here in the Americas, here in our home,” he said at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington.

Stavridis accompanied his comments with a photograph of Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad standing alongside Bolivian President Evo Morales….

3.  So illegal aliiens take the dirty, low-paying jobs that other people don’t want? Even if that were true, there are other reasons not to harbor these lawbreakers in our country. Consider this episode reported in the New Jersey News:

Janitor accused of sexually assaulting student at private school

A 14-year-old student at The Hun School of Princeton was sexually assaulted inside a classroom at the elite private school by a janitor who is in the country illegally, township police announed Thursday.

The suspect, Erickson Isai Pretzintzin-Suchi, 24, of Trenton, was arrested Wednesday on charges of sexual assault, criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child….

4.  There’s a new book out — The Immigration Solution: A Better Plan Than Today’s. You can purchase the book here.

For a symposium involving the three authors — Heather MacDonald, Steven Malanga and Victor Hanson — check out this coverage at Front Page Magazine. It’s a bit long but worth reading if you have the time. It debunks a great deal of the mythology put out by the open borders lobby about how illegal immigration benefits the US.

5.  The battle for immigration control and protection of our borders has moved to the state level. An Indiana State Senate Committee has just endorsed laws modeled on those of Oklahoma and Arizona which crack down on illegal immigration.

As more and more states move in this direction, states such as New Jersey, which do not crack down on illegals, will find themselves carrying more and more of the financial and social burden of illegal immigration.

You can learn more about the efforts in Indiana by reading this piece carried in the Indianapolic Star:

mmigration crackdown endorsed by Senate committee

After nearly three hours of passionate and often emotional testimony from Hispanics, legal scholars and lobbyists for Indiana business leaders, a Senate committee voted 10-1 to pass a tough new illegal immigration bill that penalizes employers who hire illegal immigrants.

Senate Bill 335 — which now moves to the full Indiana Senate for consideration — has been labeled as “unfriendly” to the Hispanic community, many of whom believe it could lead to racial profiling, innocent victims and possibly a mass departure of workers, both legal and illegal.
The bill was opposed by lobbyists for the state and city chambers of commerce, the restaurant industry, manufacturers, Hispanic activists and a lobbyist for the Catholic Church. But legislators have said they are hearing from their constituents who say illegal immigrants are a drain on their tax dollars, a channel for illegal drugs and a matter of national security.
