permalink  US Attorney General Gets It Wrong

U.S. Attorney General Christopher Christie got up in front of a group in Dover, NJ and told them that being an illegal alien is “not a crime.” I know it is unbelievable that someone sworn to uphold the laws of the US would say that but, if you don’t believe me, just click the link below for the whole story.

Christie Tells Dover: Being Undocumented “not a crime”

Actually, according to US Code 1892 passed in 1986 it is a punishable offense to enter the US illegally and it is also against the law to aid, abet, or hire those who entered the country illegally. But I guess US Attorney Christie played hookey from law school that day.

Call US Attorney Christie’s office at 973-645-2888 to tell him what you think of his statements.

From the Daily Record:

Christie tells Dover: Being undocumented ‘not a crime’
In talk on range of topics, says it’s an administrative issue

Fostering relations among the local Latino community and discussing immigration reform, however, were the basis for the event, sponsored by the church and the Morris County chapter of the Latino Leadership Alliance of New Jersey.

At the request of Mayor James Dodd, Christie, a Mendham Township resident, addressed the hot-button topic of illegal immigration during a question-and-answer session by the audience of approximately 70 people.

Flanked by LLANJ President Martin Perez and Edward Correa, LLANJ’s director of community initiatives, Christie offered a response to critics who have questioned why the U.S. Attorney’s Office has not done more to combat the problem.

“Being in this country without proper documentation is not a crime,” said Christie. He noted that the issue is an administrative matter for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE.

“The whole phrase of ‘illegal immigrant’ connotes that the person by just being here committed a crime … We’re not going to be arresting people who are here undocumented.”

…the 45-year-old Christie … is rumored for a possible gubernatorial run next year….

Yet one more idiot in a long line of idiots appointed by Bush to the Justice Dept. To anyone who is paying attention, it is abundantly clear that that Bush administration has no intention whatsoever of addressing the problem of illegal aliens in any meaningful way. Just one more thing to add to his litany of failures.
